All information in the FAQs refers to the Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Psychology at TU Darmstadt and is not general information for psychology degree programs at other colleges/universities.
Applications for the Bachelor's degree are always possible for the winter semester and for the Master's degree for both the winter and summer semesters. Please note the current application deadlines for the Bachelor's and Master's programs..
Admission to the Bachelor of Psychology is restricted. You can find the NC values for previous semesters here.
No specific final grade is required for the Master's degree. You can see which requirements must be met here under “Can I apply for a Master's degree in Psychology with a Bachelor's degree from another college/university?".
If your HZB grade (Abitur average) is not within the NC, you can improve your chances for the Bachelor's degree by taking the BaPsy aptitude test. Please note the relevant registration deadlines for the test. You can find out how the test result is offset against your HZB grade here.
An application for a higher semester is recommended if you have already started your psychology studies at another college/university and would like to have credits earned there recognized at the TU. When you apply, we will check individually whether your achievements can be recognized at the TU. Depending on the scope, you will then automatically be placed in a semester (2nd semester with at least 30 CP, 3rd semester with at least 60 CP, etc.). This applies equally to Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
Details on applying for a higher semester can be found here. Please also note that the normal admission requirements must still be met. See also “What grade point average do I need for the application?”.
As a rule, yes, as long as they match the courses offered by TU Darmstadt. See also “Can I apply for a higher semester?”.
In principle, you can apply for the Master's in Psychology with any Bachelor's degree, even if you have not yet completed it. When you apply, we will check whether the contents of your Bachelor's degree match those of our Bachelor's degree. In order to be admitted, you must have at least 150 CP of credits from our Bachelor's program. To roughly assess your chances, it is advisable to compare your achievements with the modules offered in our Bachelor's program.
It is not possible to make up missing credits within the TU if you are missing more than 30 CP for admission. However, credits from other institutions can usually be recognized if they are compatible with our courses.
As our Bachelor's degree does not contain any clinical content, universities with a clinical Master's degree generally do not accept students with a Bachelor's degree from the TU due to a lack of qualifications.
As both Bachelor's and Master's degrees do not include any clinical content, these degrees do not qualify you for psychotherapy training. If you would like to keep this path open for the time being, we recommend a college/university with a polyvalent program or studying “Psychotherapy” directly (not available at TU).
For both Master's degree courses, the content of the completed Bachelor's degree is checked. As a rule, this change is not possible, as there is too little computer science content for the Master's in Cognitive Science in the Bachelor's in Psychology and too little psychology content for the Master's in Psychology in the Bachelor's in Cognitive Science. At this point, we recommend that you complete both Bachelor's degree programs in parallel, as you can receive credit for some of the content of the other degree program.
The Psychology Student Advisory Service is available by e-mail for all concerns. You can contact the Central Student Advisory Office or the Academic Services Office in person or by telephone during the respective office hours.
