General information

The Institute of Psychology at TU Darmstadt is very centrally located and is characterised by its well-equipped laboratories. With an exciting orientation week, small year groups, consultation hours and revision courses, it guarantees both a good introduction to studying psychology and good studyability.

Reform of the Psychotherapists Act

The new Psychotherapists Act (PsychThG) came into force on 1 September 2020. Current information can be found on the website https://psychotherapie.dgps.de/ under the tab “Psychotherapy Reform”. This law applies to all students who start studying psychology after 1 September 2020 with the aim of becoming a psychotherapist. Students who start a new degree programme in winter semester 2020/21 can only obtain a licence to practise via Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes that meet the requirements of the 2020 Licensing Regulations. For students enrolled in a psychology degree programme before 1 September 2020, however, the PsychThG in its 1999 version will continue to apply until 2032 (training to become a psychotherapist must be completed by 1 September 2032).

The current Master's degree programme in Psychology has an application focus on work, engineering, organisational and business psychology. It is not a 'clinical' Master's programme and Master's students at TU Darmstadt cannot expect to earn enough relevant CPs for subsequent psychotherapy training, even under the old regulations.
